Kazakh Interior Ministry published interim results of the labor immigrant legalization campaign
About 24,000 foreigners from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Russia have gone legal and received certificates of immigrants in Kazakhstan. Most immigrants are menial workers at construction sites and vendors. Applications for legalization are forwarded to the authorities by their employers (4,348 applications have already been submitted). Valid for three years, certificate of immigrant defines the person's legal status in Kazakhstan and sees to his or her social protection.
Interior Ministry officials hope to legalize about 100,000 foreigners in the campaign that will end on December 31. Legalization will boost revenues of the state treasury. The state budget received almost 50 million tenges additionally in August alone.
