The Turkmenbashi's personal doctor denies the rumors concerning deterioration of health
"The president of Turkmenistan is hale, energetic, and cheerful," cardiosurgeon Hans Meysner told Turkmen journalists this Monday. Meysner was in charge of the team that gave President Saparmurat Niyazov a complete medical checkup. "Despite the stresses of his job, the Turkmenbashi carries out morning exercises and leads a healthy life."
The medical team that examined the president consisted of German specialists only (physician, orthopedist, traumatologist, dentist, ophthalmologist). All of that had come from Germany in response to a personal invitation from the Turkmenbashi.
Meysner himself is the president's personal doctor. They have known each other for more than a decade. Meysner first operated on Niyazov's heart in Munich in 1997. He has examined the patient regularly ever since.
The successful surgery in Munich earned Professor Meysner a gift from the grateful Turkmenbashi - an Akhaltekin racer worth 300,000 pounds.
The Turkmenbashi himself said he did not feel well a few days ago. He admitted he was not keeping the fast because of the medications.
