Over $1 billion transacted to Uzbekistan from abroad in 2006
UzA news agency reports with references to the Central Bank of Uzbekistan that the scope of transactions from abroad quadrupled from $225 million in 2002 to more than $1 billion last year.
The number of transaction systems operating in Uzbekistan went up from 3 to 11, the trend that allowed for competition and lower tariffs, the newspaper Pravda Vostoka reported.
Participants of the conference "Market of international transactions in Uzbekistan: development, competition, and trends" pointed out in the meantime that the potential of the market of transactions remained more or less untapped even so. Organized by the Center for Anti-Monopoly Policy, the conference agreed that mail companies, loan unions, and other financial institutions may eventually become involved in the market of transactions.
