Hizb-ut-Takhrir member, an Adolescent, convicted in Hujand and sentenced to imprisonment

The Municipal Court of Hujand (Sogdi region of Tajikistan) sentenced a juvenile member of outlawed Hizb-ut-Takhrir to eight years behind the bars.

Muminbek Mamedov, 17, resident of the Holmatov jamoat of the Bobojongafur district, was detained on November 10, 2006, as a suspected Hizb-ut-Takhrir activist.

Mamedov was frisked on arrest. Law enforcement agencies discovered flyers and religious literature.

The adolescent was tried for under several articles of the Criminal code (organization of a gang, incitement of religious hatred, calls for overthrow of the constitutional regime) and sentenced to eight years in a strict regime colony.
