President of Turkmenistan will visit Kazakhstan in late May
Die Deutsche Welle web site reports that President of Turkmenistan Gurbankuly Berdymuhammedov will visit Kazakhstan in late May. Sources close to Berdymuhammedov maintain that the list of the issues to be discussed includes export of Kazakh dough and grain to Turkmenistan, fall of fragments of the spacecraft launched from Kazakhstan in Turkmenistan, Turkmen uranium ore procession in Kazakhstan, use of Kazakh satellite communications systems by Turkmenistan, student exchange programs, and construction of the trans-Caspian gas pipeline.
Ashkhabad needs help from Astana in its search for investors in construction of the gas pipeline and its infrastructure (the project that was in the focus of attention in the wake of the visit of the the presidents of Kazakhstan and Russia to Ashkhabad). Sources claim that the participating countries agreed to sponsor construction of the gas pipeline, booster stations, and so on on their respective territories. Turkmenistan in the meantime lacks the money or reliable investors prepared to risk their capitals without the audit of Turkmen gas fields first.
