Russian broadcasts are resumed in the Andijan region of Uzbekistan
Local correspondents report that TV stations in the Andijan region of Uzbekistan resume broadcasts for Russian-speakers.
The Namangan regional TV network set the example by shifting its Asr news programme to the Russian language. The Andijan TV network followed suit. Andijon Ahboroti news program went on the air in Russia for the first time in years.
Speaking with an attractive Uzbek accent, pretty anchor delivered local news even though calling them news required a certain stretch of imagination. As in the late Soviet Union, the program was centered around stories of organizations and structures inspired by the president's latest statements and working to promote welfare of the Motherland, of the evil of drugs, diabetes mellitus, summer camps for children, and so on.
Ferghana regional TV networks will probably resume Russian broadcasts too, soon.
