Uzbekistan will sell 1,432 companies before 2011

Resolution "On facilitation of processes of privatization and active involvement of foreign investments in 2007-2010" signed by the president of Uzbekistan stipulates the sale of 944 enterprises and objects.

"Idling or lossmaking enterprises and objects whose construction was never completed" will go under the hammer. Uzbekistan hopes to sell 50% of UzDAEWOOauto in Andijan and SamAuto in Samarkand to foreign investors. The auto factories are on the list of 336 strategic assets to be sold over the next 3.5 years.

All in all, 1,432 enterprises are to be sold by 2011 including the Furan Factory and Chemical Fiber Factory in Ferghana, Samarkand Chemical Plant, Uzselkhozmash-Holding, Tashkent Tractors, Sino and Kinap factories, Kokand Textile, Kurgan Sodium Carbonate, Uzgeoburneftegaz, Uzneftegazdobycha, Uznefteprodukt, Uzneftegazmash, and nine thermal power plants of Uzbekenergo.
