The Majilis or lower house of the parliament of Kazakhstan commenced work

One hundred and seven lawmakers took oath. "We all must work hard to boost the GDP 1.5 times by 2012 and have the per capita ratio reach $13,000," President Nursultan Nazarbayev said addressing the Majilis.

Former deputy premier and minister of economics and budget planning, Aslan Yespulayevich Musin was elected chairman of the fourth Majilis. Musin was born on January 2, 1954. He finished the Alma-Ata Institute of Economics where he majored in economics. Musin was Aktoben akim or governor between September 1995 and April 2002. He became Atyrau akim in April 2002.
