President of Turkmenistan to make an official visit to Belgium
Insiders say President of Turkmenistan Gurbankuly Berdymuhammedov is making preparations for a visit to EU headquarters in Brussels scheduled for late October or early November.
Berdymuhammedov received Mark Van Risselberghen, Ambassador of Belgium, on October 19. According to Turkmenistan.Ru reports, the diplomat reassured Berdymuhammedov of his country's interest in advancement of relations with Turkmenistan.
Van Risselberghen explained that the interest in the forthcoming visit was bolstered by the reforms and new projects the president of Turkmenistan had launched.
Preparations for the visit were discussed. Both Berdymuhammedov and the diplomat agreed that the visit would promote new contacts between Turkmenistan and the European Union in all fields of cooperation including fuel and energy complex, agriculture, education, health care, and social matters.
The Turkmen leader advised the ambassador that Turkmenistan was particularly interested in studying Belgium's vast experience in dealing with social issues. Promoting diversification of the relations with the European Union, Berdymuhammedov made an emphasis on the importance the foreign political strategy of Ashkhabad was attaching to Europe in general.
