Governor Jantoro Satybaldiyev paid a visit to the family of Alisher Saipov, journalist assassinated in Osh on October 24.

The governor prayed for Saipov and offered condolences to his father (the two had worked together once). Satybaldiyev said law enforcement agencies were doing everything possible to solve the crime.

Investigation of the assassination is under President Kurmanbek Bakiyev's personal control.

Press release of the Kyrgyz Interior Ministry two days ago revealed interim results of the investigation. The document stated that Saipov had been on terrorist organizations' payroll and had contacts with Hizb-ut-Tahrir.

Kyrgyz general public condemned this interpretation of the assassinated journalist's purely professional contacts. The widespread opinion is that not friendly relations with Uzbekistan should interfere with an impartial and objective investigation even though Saipov did publish materials critical of Uzbekistan and interviewed political adversaries of the Uzbek regime.

Reuters quoted Bakyt Seyitov of the Kyrgyz Interior Ministry as saying on October 30 that "involvement of Uzbek secret services in the assassination is one of the working hypotheses because Saipov did criticize Karimov's policy and regime."
