A denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) or distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS attack) is an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users. Although the means to carry out, motives for, and targets of a DoS attack may vary, it generally consists of the concerted, malevolent efforts of a person or persons to prevent an Internet site or service from functioning efficiently or at all, temporarily or indefinitely.
For more information, see Wikipedia.

Ferghana.ru informs its readers and information partners that on 20 of June at 4 p.m. (Moscow time) our information agency’s web-site (http://www.fergananews.com), located at ThePlanet.Com hosting platform was under massive DDoS attack that is still continuing for more than 12 hours.

As a result our web-server was inaccessible for 5 hours. At present time provider company’s specialists activated the functioning of our web-site, however many of our visitors are still experiencing problems with the access to our internet resource.

The editorial staff of Ferghana.ru News Agency does not have enough information to insist on whose interest it was. But it is rather than clear that it was a quite professional purposeful malevolent step aiming to cause troubles to our web-server.

It is significant to emphasize that ThePlanet.Com hosting company is one of the best in the world and has got a very good protection system.

Later on we will conduct an investigation of that hacker attack and will inform about the results to our readers.
